About

Our Mission

Emma’s Project was formed in 2019 after four-year-old Emma Hojnacki tragically drowned in a hotel resort pool, with no lifeguards on duty or family members present. Our mission is to raise water safety awareness to prevent children from drowning. Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death for children under 5 and a leading cause for ages 1-14. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for each fatal drowning incident, five more children receive emergency care for submersion injuries. Emma’s Project aims to spread the message that drowning IS preventable.

Volunteer opportunities are available year-round, ranging from helping at fundraising events, to assembling or distributing water safety cards, to representing Emma’s Project at school safety fairs, and more.

But we can’t do it without you, so we’re asking you to get involved. There are so many ways for you to join us in our mission of raising water safety awareness to prevent children from drowning. Contact us to get more information.

Successful events don’t happen by magic. They take vision, careful planning, teamwork, goodwill, volunteers, and lots of hard work. They also need funding, as the bills don’t pay themselves. We are very lucky – and grateful – to have some loyal partners who share a vision of a world where no child drowns, but we are always looking for additional partners to help us do more and expand our reach.
